A FISHING tackle shop in Wigan is angling for donations in aid of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Platt Bridge Tackle and Bait, in Warrington Road, is supporting a fishing competition at Wrightington Fishery in March and is looking for anglers to support the event.

The organisers are looking for donations and prizes for a charity auction as all the places on the competition have been taken.

Gary Smith, who runs the shop, said: “All places are taken, but people can still come into the shop and donate, as everyone knows someone who has had help from the hospice. We had one last year for the hospice which raised about £800 so we are hoping that we can beat that this year.”

The news has come as a welcome boost for the hospice.

Edwin Matthews, of Wigan and Leigh Hospice said: “We’re delighted that Platt Bridge Tackle and Bait has agreed to support us for the second year running as we need as much support from the community as possible to maintain the levels of care we try to provide for the community.”
