A DISUSED club near to Wigan town centre could become another takeaway drive-thru.

Rumours are rife that McDonald’s Restaurants – which already has premises in Standishgate and Gower Street plus Platt Bridge – are now negotiating to buy the boarded up Upper Morris Street Working Men’s Club which closed late last summer despite a desperate battle to keep trading with mounting utility and brewery loan bills.

They are said to want to completely flatten the building and build a drive-through style operation which will take full advantage of the Morris Street road layout for easy access by town centre traffic. A spokesman for McDonald’s would neither confirm or deny that one of the world’s most successful fast food chain were vying to buy Upper Morris Street Club.
