Cricket club is holding open day
BOSSES at Wigan Cricket Club are inviting fans to watch Sky Sports’ TV coverage of the Investec Ashes Series on Saturday 3 as part of a nationwide campaign to boost cricket participation. It is one of over 300 clubs showing the England versus Australia match in the UK as part of club open days.

Summer beach is coming back to town
THE Galleries Shopping Centre is bringing back it’s popular beach area for youngsters to enjoy.
It will officially open at 11am on July 29 in Woodcock Square. There will be a beach party with face painting, funfair stalls, games and prize give aways.
Custom bike and car show at Mr Earl’s
A FAMILY fun event will take place on Saturday July 13. It will include a trade stalls, refreshments, an inside custom bike and scooter show, a tattoo stand, a family funfair, live bands and a rock disco.
The entry fee is £2 and it’s £5 for evening bands and a late disco. It will take place at Mr Earls on Earl Street, Ince.

Big summer gig for young people
WIGAN Youth Zone is hosting a huge music event for young people across the borough to enjoy on Saturday July 13.
The day will comprise live music, participatory classes for young people in our music studio and a showcase event for different organisations involved in music to inspire young people.
Pub hosting its closing down party
BOSSES at The Royal Oak are holding a send-off event to celebrate their retirement on July 14 from 4pm until 8pm. The pub is situated at 111-113 on Standishgate.
Summer fair at local nursery for all
Mrs Ogden’s nursery in Standish is holding its summer fair this Saturday.
There will be lots of fun and games for parents and children.
Attractions include a bouncy castle and face painting for the young ones.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day. There will also be a number of stalls manned by the nursery staff.
The fair begins at 11am and will run until 2pm.
The nursery’s address is Swimsmart House, Bradley Lane, Standish.
Singles’ night to be held at Haigh Hall
There will be a singles’ night at Haigh Hall next Saturday, July 20.
The party night will be held in the Douglas Suite at the Hall.
Guests can dance the night away to their favourite sounds. The evening starts at 8.30pm and will run until 12.30am.
It is being run by Northern Link social scene and will cost £6 for members and £7.50 for guests.

Knit and natter group meet in library

Works mean delays on busy street
Balfour Beatty began essential gas works on Wednesday, July 3 at the junction of Balcarres Avenue.
Temporary traffic signals will be in operation at all times until this Saturday, July 13.
Dementia cafe and Alzheimer’s society
The Alzheimer’s Society are hosing and event with an informal environment for carers and people with dementia at Parbold Women’s Institute Hall this Friday, July 12 from 10am.
It will give people the chance for people to pop in for a brew and have access to information and support from the Alzheimer’s Society.

Hatha Yoga at Hall held twice a week
Hatha Yoga classes are being held each Thursday and Sunday at Parbold Women’s Institute Hall
The classes combine traditional Hatha Yoga postures and sequences with specific breathing and relaxation techniques to promote overall health and wellbeing.
Classes are suitable for all levels, including beginners. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring something warm for relaxation.
Sunday and Thursday classes are six sessions for £24 but guests can drop in on Thursday evening at £5.50.

Neighbourhood teams are increasing patrols in the area and speaking with the community to gather intelligence following reports of drug dealing in the area.

Songs of praise in the park
THE Praise In The Park event is set to take place this weekend.
Organised by Ashton and Bryn Churches together, everyone is invited to attend and join in with some popular hymns at Jubilee Park from 2.30pm on Sunday.
St James with St Thomas Garden Party
THE annual summer garden party will take place this weekend.
Admission is 20p on Saturday at the church in Poolstock, there will be a wide selection of stalls including crafts, cakes and books.
All money raised will go towards the church funds.
Go beyond your limits with dance class
ENERGETIC dance classes run by the Beyond Limits group take place every Sunday at Wigan Seagulls Gym Club on Bryn Road South.
The street dance class runs from 6.30pm to 7.30pm with jazz funk classes from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
There is a £3.50 cost per class for seven to 14-year-olds.

A LADIES’ fashion evening will be held next week at the North Ashton Village Club, Bolton Street, off Rectory Road.

Advice service open weekly at centre
RESIDENTS with any issues that may require independent advice can visit the Worsley Mesnes Community Centre.
The advice surgery runs from 9am to 11am every Tuesday.
Park run open every weekend
KEEP fit fanatics can work up a sweat every weekend by taking part in the Pennington Flash park run.
Runners of all ages are welcome although under-11s must be accompanied by an adult.
The run takes place every Saturday at 9am and are free of charge. Participants are invited for a coffee in the portacabin next to the ranger’s hut after the run.

RESIDENTS can discuss Leigh’s policing priorities with community officers this week.
The latest meeting will take place at Lilford Park surgery from 9am to 3pm on Friday.
Local officers will be present to discuss any topics of interest regarding local issues.
Roadworks to cause disruption
REFURBISHMENT works are due to take start on Astley Brook Bridge this month, meaning lane closures and a contra-flow system will be in place.
The works start on July 15 and will continue for 18 weeks. The traffic measures will be on Lingards Lane and Higher Green Lane.
Delays are to be expected.
Temporary traffic signals in place
WORKS carried out in front of 65c Long Lane, Hindley, will mean traffic disruption from today.
Traffic signals will remain in operation until July 16.
The works are being carried out by Balfour Beatty.
Tribute to Elvis at the Rose Club

THE Springfield in Gidlow Lane is holding a family fun day on Saturday July 13 from noon onwards.

Sing a song and have a natter
A TEA and chat event will be held at the John Eddleston Centre, Main Street, on Monday July 15 beginning at 1.30pm.
Children from St Aidan’s Primary School will sing at the event.
There will also be an all-age communion service at St Aidan’s Church on Sunday July 14 at 10.30am. Holy Communion is taken each Wednesday at 10am.
