POLICE have made an arrest after a man was found unconscious in Wigan.
The 55 year old man from Beech Hill is still in a critical condition at Wigan Infirmary after he was found on Frog Lane in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police were called at around 4.40am after the man was found near the council waste ground.
GMP have confirmed that a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been bailed until 19 July 2012 pending further inquires.
Officers know that he was last seen leaving Wiend Bar in Wigan town centre at about 3.50am and that they are seeking witnesses to come forward as they are unsure of how he came by his injuries.
The man is white 6ft tall of medium build with short grey hair. He was wearing a light blue checked shirt with light blue jeans, black shoes, a black fleece and black hat.
Detective Constable Deborah Pennington said: “We have a number of detectives investigating this incident who are working to establish what has happened to this man.
“We are keeping an open mind and are appealing to anyone who saw him last night or in the early hours of this morning to get in contact.
“Did you perhaps see this man leaving Wiend bar, did you speak to him at any point or did you witness how he came to suffer his injuries?
“We are appealing to anyone who may be able to account for this man’s movements, so we can piece everything together and provide some much needed answers for the man’s family.”
