HEALTH chiefs are warning Wiganers not to over indulge over the Christmas period.
NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan (NHSALW) are urging people to keep check of their eating habits in order to help keep healthy over the next few weeks.
Together with Slimming World and Lose Weight Feel Great - NHSALW’s weight loss scheme - health bosses believe that with a little bit of caution, Wiganers can stay healthy and keep slim.
With the average person consuming a staggering 6,000 calories on Christmas Day and an extra 500 for every day in the run up to Christmas, temptation is everywhere during the festive season.
Health experts say that Lose Weight Feel Great offers a range of tailored weight management services to support you in your goal to lose weight and help you to keep it off for good.
It combines three important elements we all need for successful weight management; healthy eating, physical activity and motivational support to help you change your behaviour.
Jane Pilkington, Assistant Director of Health Improvement at NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan, says: “With so many tempting traditions and treats available during the Christmas period, it comes as no surprise that we all find it difficult to stick to a healthy eating plan this month. Also as the weather gets colder and the darker evenings creep in, we find it harder to keep up our exercise routines so having a partner on board like Lose Weight Feel Great can be the perfect motivator.”
Sue Gibson, Lead Co-ordinator from Slimming World, said: “This time of year doesn’t have to be synonymous with weight gain and it is possible to eat healthily without completely giving up your festive favourites.
“Delivered by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust in Partnership with Slimming World the Community Weight Management Programme’s package of Food Optimising, non-stop group support and physical activity sessions, means it is possible to stay on track this Christmas and feel the positive effects in 2012.”
