Robbers armed with a knife and an axe stole phones and cash from a house.

The three men entered the house on Anderton Street in Ince, Wigan, through the front door before shouting and threatening the occupants with the weapons.

One of the occupants, a 21-year-old man, was punched in the face, before the offenders stole two mobile phones and cash.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and has been bailed until July 29, pending further enquiries.

One of the men involved is described as white, over 6ft tall, of stocky build, late 20s-30s and was wearing dark clothing. Another is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothing.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Chris Waddicar of GMP’s Wigan Borough said: “The occupants were understandably terrified to be confronted by three men armed with an axe and knife, and it is fortunate that no-one was seriously hurt.

“We have made one arrest but I am appealing to anyone with information to get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 7967, 101, or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
