SNOWY conditions have caused traffic chaos on two busy routes.
Motorists on the M6 were experiencing delays in both directions between junction 27, at Standish, and 26, at Orrell after several road traffic collisions caused by snow and sleet occurred shortly after 7am on Saturday.
One lane remained closed as emergency services attended and cleared the carriagways, which were slushy and difficult to drive on.
And a man, thought to be in his 40s, had minor injuries after he lost control of his Citroen near the roundabout at The Greyhound Hotel, off the East Lancs Road, in Leigh, at 7.30am.
The vehicle skidded down an embankment, smashing through a fence and landed on its side in a ditch.
A spokesman for Leigh Fire Service said: “Luckily the driver had his seatbelt on. An off duty policeman witnessed the crash and came to his aid.
“When we arrived the man was out of his car and walking around. He was taken to Wigan Infirmary and was badly shaken up.”
