A FOUR-year-old Wigan boy who accidentally set himself on fire is still fighting for his life in hospital.

The unnamed youngster is being treated at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where his condition is still described as serious, but stable.

His family is maintaining a round-the-clock vigil at his bedside.

The four-year-old suffered 40 per cent burns to his upper body while playing with a cigarette lighter in a rear bedroom of his terraced home in Hartley Avenue, Ince, last Thursday afternoon.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene, and was then rushed to the city hospital, where he underwent an operation.

Crews from Wigan and Hindley attended the scene of the blaze, and fire officers carried out an investigation with the police into the cause, which was confirmed as accidental.
