HE’s done a great deal since winning Olympic Gold and the Tour de France but it’s fair to say nothing will top Sir Bradley Wiggins guest appearance in The Archers next week.
Bradley, married to Wigan Lass Catherine, and dad to Bella and Ben, will appear in a special story line for Sport Relief on an episode on Friday, February 21.
Fans of the show have already being alerted to the fact that a sporting star is set to launch an endurance race organised by Shula’s son Dan, and landlady’s daughter Fallon Rogers.
Excitement has been mounting among loyal fans about who the guest may be.
Now we know. Bradley has already recorded his episode which goes out at 7pm next Friday.
Wiggo will head to Ambridge to crown the winner as the villagers hold their own Sport Relief fundraising event next week.
And the four-time gold medallist - a lifelong fan of the show - also encounters Lynda Snell’s rusty old bike during his guest appearance in the show.
Sir Bradley will feature in the show on March 21, the same evening which Sport Relief is celebrated on BBC TV.
He said: “When I was asked to record a Sport Relief special for The Archers, there was no way I could turn it down. I grew up with it on the radio in the house, and it’s not every day you get to star in the world’s longest-running soap opera.
“Meeting the cast, the writer and the director was an honour and I really hope the story line will raise awareness about Sport Relief’s amazing work, and that it shows people that everyone can get involved in Sport Relief this year.”
His forthcoming appearance was flagged up in tonight’s edition of the rural soap.
Wiggo has made a number of excursions into showbusiness since his double Tour de France and Olympic triumphs of 2012.
He was the star turn of a short film about his adopted hometown Wigan on the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year last year. He has also collaborated with clothing range Fred Perry on a range mod-inspired clothing.
