POLICE investigating reports of shots being fired in Atherton have recovered a bullet.
Officers were called to Coronation Avenue at 10.20pm on Wednesday after the alarm was raised.
They established that no-one had been hurt but then the next morning it was reported that a bullet hole had been found in the door of a Fiat Punto in the street. Forensic recovery began soon after and a sec tion of nearby Spa Road was also closed to traffic.
Det Chief Insp Howard Millington said: “We are at the early stages of this investigation, and it would therefore be too early to speculate as to what may have happened. However, I do want to say that we are determined to establish the full facts and get to the bottom of what happened.” An appeal has been made for witnesses to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
The incident comes after shots were fired by a camouflage-clad man in Falkirk Drive, Ince on Sunday evening. Police say there is little suggestion of a link at present.
