Fast fruit and veg is growing nicely
Wigan-based organic box delivery company, The Farmshed, is launching an ambitious North West expansion drive after sales figures soared by 50% in the first two months of 2009.
The company – which is celebrating its first anniversary in business – has bucked the general fall-off in demand for organic produce.
Within its first 12 months, The Farmshed has rapidly expanded distribution across both Lancashire and Cheshire.
They have also extended their already extensive organic product range and partnered with two other box companies – Lyncroft Farm in Ormskirk and Howbarrow Farm, Cumbria.
Tom Cropper, who founded the company with his brother Rich, said: "We've experienced great success in our first twelve months of business, no more so than at the beginning of 2009 which has been a period of unprecedented growth.
"The significant rise in sales and customer numbers is the perfect platform on which to launch ambitious plans to develop the business in terms of both product range and regional reach.
"We're still committed to sourcing as much of our produce as locally as possible, allowing vegetables to reach the customer within 48 hours of harvest and ensuring food miles are kept to a minimum.
"Our customers are extremely important to us and we're proud to celebrate our successful first year with them."
