National award for Bill's firm

A Wigan-based plumbing company is celebrating after winning a prestigious national award.

Rothwell Plumbing Services, which employs almost 200 people, lifted the National Sub-Contractor of the Year award at the Housing Excellence Awards.

The Goose Green firm was shortlisted for the honour along with three other nominees.

Bill Rothwell, chairman for the company, accepted the award.

He said: "This was the first time we have been nominated in the Housing Excellence Awards.

"We are delighted we have won and our success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of our workforce."

Bill started the company from scratch in 1991 and made it a limited firm in 1997.

It has become one of the North West's largest plumbing and central heating contractors and specialises particularly in the modernisation of occupied properties.

Almost 90% of its impressive 17m turnover is generated in the social housing sector, delivering upgrades to bathrooms, kitchens and central heating.

The Housing Excellence Awards are held every year to honour companies that make social housing work, whether by constructing houses, running social housing schemes or developing products and services that aid with housing issues.

Bill said: "It fills me with immense pride for our company to be recognised at such a prestigious ceremony.

"As I am due to retire very soon being able to walk on stage and be presented with the award meant a great deal to me."

Rothwell's workforce is made up of office staff, plumbers, service managers and builders.
