Plan for beyond recession

Now is a good time to put in place a structured improvement programme and one that will continue to drive forward your business long after the recession has ended.

So says North of England Excellence, the not-for-profit body which helps organisations to improve their performance.

It has launched a series of regular training events in Warrington plus a customer service conference at Haydock Park Racecourse on March 26, with funding available from Business Link North West for qualifying companies in the region.

It says rather than a one-off initiative or a panic response, businesses should be looking to adopt procedures which become a regular and recurring part of their normal planning process.

David Teale, chief executive of North of England Excellence, said: "The standard advice to help businesses survive a recession is to cut costs, control creditors, analyse expenditure and review strategy to concentrate on the best opportunities.

"For the very best companies, however, actions such as this will be a matter of course – not something they discover when recession starts to bite.

"High-performing companies regularly review every aspect of their businesses and develop strategies to deliver continual improvement. It is logical that such organisations will be the best placed to face the recession."

North of England Excellence has organised a range of training sessions in Warrington on dates throughout the year.
