Smaller firms oninternet fast track
ALMOST a third more smaller Wigan firms have been accessing high-speed business broadband connections and next generation applications in the last 12 months alone
Despite the economic gloom, the UKs largest Next Generation network operator shows that local SMEs are seeing the worth in and embracing new technology.
The TalkTalk Business customer data reveals that, over the last year, 10,000 more UK small or medium-sized enterprises are now accessing a network spanning more than 90 per cent of the country.
As a result of firms being better connected, last year also saw a 71 per cent increase in the number of Wigan employees working for local SMEs with high-speed broadband.
Salisbury has seen the biggest growth in SMEs accessing high-speed broadband while Sheffield, Glasgow and Wakefield witnessed the smallest.
Andy Lockwood, the providers transformation director, said: Despite a pessimistic economic outlook, as the UKs largest network provider, it is encouraging to see such a significant increase in SMEs now connected to high-speed business grade broadband.
Research we conducted estimated that UK SMEs are collectively losing 357m in wasted labour costs and suffering up to 32.4 million hours of internet downtime per month through a reliance on domestic rather than business grade broadband connectivity. This underlines how vital it is for businesses of all sizes to be connected to a high speed network. Its the gateway to the latest cloud technology and being on the right network increases speed and efficiency - ensuring long term economic growth.
