The ultimate competition for entrepreneurs
Calling all budding businesspeople and entrepreneurs! Here's your chance to win an incredible prize – a 12-month stay in Wigan's prestigious Royal Arcade – completely rent free.
The Wigan Observer's innovative W-in Business competition will enable the borough's brightest business brains to pitch their plans for a new business to town centre bosses in a Dragon's Den-style contest.
The very best applicants will be invited to perform presentations to a panel of judges – to include Royal Arcade owner Yona Emanuel, Wigan town centre manager Mike Matthews and Observer Editor Gillian Gray – before the final interviews take place in August.
There are two prizes up for grabs too – with one Royal Arcade unit completely rent, insurance and service charge free for 12 months and another available on the same terms for six months.
Applicants must send in a statement of interest to the Wigan Observer by no later than Tuesday, July 21.
Your application should include:
A statement about what unique offer can you bring to the Royal Arcade;
A Business Plan based over three-five years
A Financial Plan based over three-five years
Your employment/business history
Town centre manager Mike Matthews, who came up with the scheme along with the Royal arcade owners, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for new enterprises to start up in the town centre.
"We would welcome invitations from people wanting to establish new businesses in what is a highly prestigious arcade."
Royal Arcade boss Yona Emanuel added: "In today's times it really is
something to have a chance of winning a prestigious business unit rent free to make a good go of your business.
"Trade at the Royal Arcade has been affected by the opening of the Grand Arcade and we want to know how your business would complement our arcade and the existing traders and help increase footfall for all our other tenants."
And Observer Editor Gillian Gray said: "At a time when some businesses are struggling to pay rents and rates, this is a terrific way to encourage new start-ups by giving them a real chance to keep their overheads under control.
"We hope to see some of Wigan's brightest entrepreneurs coming up with some great ideas for successful retail business."
All applications should be addressed to: W-in Business competition, Wigan Observer, Martland Mill, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan, WN5 0LX.
