75,000 calls to helpline

A business helpline which serves the national British Chambers of Commerce has reached a milestone.

Composite Legal Expenses supplies Chamber members with legal expenses insurance cover.

Wigan-based law firm, Stephensons Solicitors LLP, provides the legal advice as part of this cover to Chamber members through the freephone helpline, and has now taken its 75,000th call since the seven-year partnership with Composite began.

Stephensons handle around 35 to 40 calls daily from businesses seeking advice.

Composite's business development manager, Tim Mullin, said: "The sheer volume of calls this helpline has taken in the last seven years is testament to the value it provides to Chamber members.

"Stephensons has been providing the legal helpline for over seven years for our commercial and personal insurance and we know from regular customer feedback that the quality and breadth of advice the firm delivers is extremely effective."

Andrew Welch, a partner at Stephensons, said: "The Composite helpline has assisted many businesses, from dealing with small issues through to large-scale problems which could have cost the business in question thousands of pounds in legal costs.

"One client recently had trouble recovering some unpaid invoices from a customer worth more than 21,000. This case was tricky from the outset, but with some swift action, the client was paid in full, with interest and compensation within six weeks."
