TWO Wigan businessmen are appealing to other companies to pitch for a share of the Regional Growth Fund.
Harry Cunliffe, owner of Cromedale, and Dave Armstrong, of Carbon Consultancy Company, are holding a free seminar for local businesses at Armstrong Properties, Unit 9, Swan Lane, Hindley Green, on February 7 from 9.30am until 11.30am.
The Regional Growth Fund is a pot of £350m to help businesses across the UK to grow and improve the job prospects particularly within areas affected by high unemployment and government austerity cuts. Since inception, Regional Growth Fund has created nationally more than 500,000 jobs through £2.6bn of government intervention and more than £13bn of private sector investment. Mssrs Cunliffe and Armstrong want to ensure Wigan’s companies get their fair share of this cash and apply before the deadline of March 20.
Dr Cunliffe, through his company Cromedale, has achieved more than £20m of grant funding and has previous successful experience with applications in earlier rounds of Regional Growth Fund,
He said: “I am passionate about helping Wigan borough businesses to grow.
“This government cash injection can make the difference between a company remaining stagnant and a company growing, excelling and creating and safeguarding jobs.”
Mr Armstrong recently developed the UK’s first Zero Energy Cost Business Park in Hindley Green, and was successful in achieving £1.3m of grant assistance.
He said: “Businesses have great ideas, but often general economic conditions hold these ideas back.
“The Regional Growth Fund is one way to realise these great ideas. The money is available and we can help companies access it. We have joined forces because both of us are passionate about helping Wigan borough businesses to grow and stimulate employment for local people.”
