A SPECIALIST cask ale company which promotes an award-winning Wigan brewer has strengthened its management team.

Former Thwaites Brewery salesman John Shuttleworth joins Local Heroes’ boss Micky Finn who founded the company five years ago on a mission to boost cask ale in pubs across the North West.

He has more than 40 years’ experience in the brew ing and licensed trade and worked at Thwaites for more than 20 years until leaving the company earlier this year.

Local Heroes currently represents three different cask ale brewers, including Patsy Slevin’s Standish-based Prospect Brewery. The company works on a freelance basis selling beers from all three breweries to pubs keen to boost sales of cask ale in a rapidly growing market.

Mr Shuttleworth said: “I am delighted to join Local Heroes who are a company dedicated to flying the flag for cask ales by making local beers more freely available to licensees. Pubs are showing a growing desire to serve local beers across their bars and an increasing number of drinkers now expect to see local brews available.”
