Cleaning-up in sector of sterilisation

A family-owned Sheffield firm that lays claim to being able to trace its history back over four centuries has unveiled a new sterilisation service for the healthcare sector.

Granton Medical has been making medical devices, including medical tuning forks, scalpels, instruments and diagnostic products for years.

Around a dozen years ago the firm set up a plant to produce self-sealing sterilisation pouches, which other manufacturers use for their medical products and became the sole UK manufacturer, producing 100 million pouches each year.

Since then, the Parkway Close-based firm has assembled, packed and sterilised a range of medical products. Following an approach from German owned B Braun Medical, which has a plant at Chapeltown, Granton has launched its Cleanpack service, offering sub-contract tailor-made packaging and sterilising services to medical device companies.
