A LOCAL youngster is celebrating after gaining an apprenticeship at an employability skills centre.

Employment Gateway, part of InTraining, is based at the Skelmersdale campus of West Lancashire College in Skelmersdale and provides guidance and training to local unemployed individuals.

Zoe Flannery, 16, from Skelmersdale has recently completed her GCSEs at Glenburn High School and is now taking a business administration qualification while in the workplace.

She said: “All my friends are at colleges doing full-time courses and I’m working, but being part of the Employment Gateway at the college is the best of both worlds! I didn’t want to rely on my parents so earning a wage is really great. The team have been fantastic – I was really shy when I started but I’ve come out of my shell. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for me now.”
