SUMMER has finally arrived, the nights are getting longer, the sun is shining and the UK economy is showing the first signs of recovery.
And the Wigan Evening Post is urging businesses across the borough to make hay while the sun shines – on all fronts!
To mark the arrival of summer and better economic times your local paper has launched a red-hot campaign to boost businessthroughout Wigan and Leigh.
Our Summer of Love campaign is urging readers to help the local economy by spending their money locally, visiting our tourist attractions and eating out at pubs and restaurants.
We want to help businesses on our doorsteps kick-start their summer by helping them to find new customers.
Already we have launched our Shop Local initiative, which encourages the people who live in and around Wigan to spend their cash on their local high street, and support local entrepreneurs by putting their money back into the local community.
Almost EVERY penny of a pound spent with a local business will be ploughed back into improving your town or village. Almost EVERY penny of a pound spent at a supermarket will leave the area for good.
On our regular Business pages we regularly feature local businesses - and champion many entrepreneurs who making this town the success it is.
Janet Wilson, editor of the Wigan Evening Post and Wigan Observer, said: “We are in the middle of a very difficult period but Wigan has got so much to be positive about. Wigan Athletics’ historic win at Wembley brought fantastic publicity for the town across the world and Wigan Warriors’ impressive winning stretch just keeps the feel-good factor right up there.
“The idea of Shop Local is to encourage people to shop within their local community and give their local high street a boost by shopping close to home rather than going further afield. We are also encouraging businesses to use all aspects of our unrivalled reach – we’re so much more than just a newspaper, and we’re reaching more people than ever before – that can only be good for business.
“Both our titles, the Wigan Observer and Wigan Evening Post, and the website, www.wigantoday.net have been redesigned, offering a fresh, quality platform for advertisers to promote their businesses and for people willing to spend locally to find what they want. The Summer of Love campaign is about harnessing the feel-good factor of summer, and giving the local economy a welcome turbo-boost into quarters three and four.”
