MEMBERS of a blaze-hit community rugby club are on the road to raising it Phoenix-like from the ashes.
Having raised more than £20,000 since the fire wrecked half of Ashton Bears ARLFC’s clubhouse, volunteers have been working tirelessly to refurbish the Low Bank Road venue.
But another estimated £40,000 is needed to complete the makeover to the lounge, kitchen area and changing rooms which had only recently had a six-figure sum spent on them before disaster hit.
Club bosses have arranged numerous events to help raise the rest of the money including an all-day event tomorrow, Saturday July 19 and a bucket collection at tonight’s Warriors-Hull match at the DW.
Chairman Steve Jones said: “We have all been working hard in order to raise funds for the rebuild project and we have made excellent progress and we are so proud.
“Recently, there have been many rumours about what is going to happen next but I am confident that we will be back together at Bear Park for the 2015 season, bigger, stronger and better than ever.”
The fun day will start at noon tomorrow at Low Bank Road playing fields, Ashton and will last until 4pm.
Attractions include touch rugby, a bar, stalls and a barbecue.
