THE search has been launched for the borough business stars of 2013.
The Wigan Business Awards were formally launched by Wigan President of Greater Manchester Chamber, Miranda Barker, on Friday at a networking lunch for key business leaders at Leigh Sports Village.
Nominations for this year’s awards, which are sponsored by NatWest, are now being accepted from businesses from across the borough, from Golborne to Standish, and Leigh to Longshaw.
There are 10 categories in total, including: Business of the Year, We’re Backing Wigan Award (which has been broadened to make it a natural home for charities and enterprises of any sort), Small or Medium Enterprise of the Year, Independent Retail Business of the Year, plus new award: Exporter of the Year.
Businesses in the borough have until Monday September 2 to submit their entries, and members of the Chamber as well as non-members are eligible to enter.
Ms Barker said: “Over the years, the Wigan Business Awards have consistently highlighted how wonderfully diverse and successful our business community is. “They go from strength to strength, and each year the judging process gets more and more difficult!
“The quality and variety of entries we receive is phenomenal, showcasing the impressive work taking place in our borough.
“The awards ceremony is a celebration of those businesses.
“Many of the shortlisted companies and winners benefit hugely from the publicity and kudos associated with the awards, so we would urge as many businesses as possible to put themselves forward.”
The awards ceremony will be taking place on Friday November 15 at the DW Stadium. As well as honouring the top businesses in the borough, the ceremony will be attended by Clive Memmott, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and North West MEP, Brian Simpson.
