A NEW housing estate has put a Wigan site manager in line for top honours.
Martin Sharkey, who works for Ben Bailey Homes by Gladedale, got through the first round of judging for the Pride in the Job Awards organised by the National House-Building Council (NHBC) for his work on the Git Pit village development in Tyldesley.
Mr Sharkey was selected by the judges from more than 13,000 applicants, making it through to the group of 450 who will go on to the next phase of the competition.
The award subjects every aspect of the site managers’ work to criteria set down by the NHBC, covering everything from the overall construction of new homes to influencing the outcome of the building work and day-to-day management and organisational skills.
Giles Asker, managing director at Ben Bailey Homes, said: “These awards are testament to Martin’s continued commitment and professionalism. He has shown outstanding capability in delivering excellent homes for our customers and we are extremely proud of him.”
Martin will now go on to the regional finals, with the winners being announced at a series of awards ceremonies held across the country in the autumn. Those who progress will go on to the Grand Gala Final in London in January.
NHBC executive chairman Isabel Hudson said: “For more than 30 years, Pride in the Job has been one of the cornerstones of NHBC’s work to improve housing standards for the benefit of home-owners.
“Anyone gaining an award against such strong competition can be very proud of their achievement.”
