A WIGAN-based furniture firm is making a mockery of the country’s economic woes with a bold expansion plan.
Sofa retailer csl will kick-start its growth into the South East later this month with a major new store at Brent Cross Shopping Park in North West London – its first outside of its heartland north and Midlands regions.
The company, which currently operates 18 stores, announced its strategy to develop a UK-wide presence last year with plans for a further 15 new sites by 2015.
In addition to its new location at Brent Cross, the family-owned company is planning two further stores at other flagship sites in the south within the next six to nine months.
The move coincides with positive trading figures from csl, which show like-for-like sales rose six per cent in the nine weeks to June 26, while sales including new stores increased 14 per cent.
The firm, which also has its training base in Wigan, said LFLs had achieved double digit growth in the last three weeks of trading.
Managing director Jason Tyldesley said: “Our new Brent store marks an important milestone for csl, as we expand our brand nationally and invest in our store portfolio across prime retail locations.
“We’re confident of securing further growth in market share over the coming years as we scale up the business in the South East and continue to introduce new innovations to our service and product range across our stores. Recent trading has been very encouraging. From a broadly flat first quarter, sales over the second quarter have continued to rise, with all stores recording an increase in like-for-likes.
“While there clearly remains a lot of uncertainty across retail, we’re optimistic that we’ll continue outperforming the sector as more customers buy into our brand.
“The strength of our financial position also means we’re able to continue investing and innovating.”
