Unemployment figures fall again

THERE was some welcome news on the job front for Wigan today as it was announced that unemployment has fallen for the second month running.

And while joblessness among younger people nationally has topped the one million mark and still makes for more than a third of all Wigan people out of work, that too fell in October, by 25 to exactly 3,000.

The Council’s deputy leader David Molyneux said that he expected the figures to remain reasonably static unless the Government finally injected some extra funding into the economy which would generate more work for 16 to 24-year-olds.
