A DEVASTATING cancer diagnosis has forced a Wigan couple to celebrate their silver wedding a year early.

An emotional renewal of marriage vows was followed by a big family party at the weekend - but it wasn’t what Jane and Brian Turner had originally planned.

The couple from Wrightington had always thought they would mark their quarter century together by going on a Caribbean cruise.

But in March Jane was diagnosed with cancer for the second time and this time there is nothing doctors can do. The family GP advised Jane to put her affairs in order, make a will and draw up a list of things she wanted to do.

One item on that list which is neither extravagant nor complicated, was to have a party.

And when family learned of it they swung into action.

Brian said: “We had thought we would have a bit of a do, but were told to just turn up. We were even booked into Wrightington Country Club over night after the party.

“And we want to thank everyone, especially my sister Diane and her husband David Marsh and daughter Joanne, who with our daughters organised everything.”
