POLICE are still looking for witnesses after a Wigan man was left for dead on a car park following a single punch.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in Chorley when it’s thought the offender walked from Applejax nightclub to engage in an altercation with other people.

It was on the Iron Car Park on New Market Street, close to Booths supermarket, where the 30-year-old victim from Wigan was punched once before falling and hitting his head on the ground knocking him unconscious.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries in a critical condition.

Detectives investigating the incident are still appealing for help to trace anyone who witnessed what happened.

A 19-year-old man from Chorley was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 GBH with intent and has since been released on bail until August 20 pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Philip Bowerbank, of Preston CID, said: “This is a serious incident and a man has been left with potentially life threatening head injuries. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us on 101.

“We know there were a large number of revellers in the area at the time of the incident so if any of them witnessed what happened or events leading up to the assault, please come forward as any information you hold could help us with our enquiries.”
