REGULARS at The Crown in Goose Green and those at the neighbouring New Inn have helped remember schoolboy Scott Armstrong, who tragically died of a heart attack aged just 15.
They have made an £860 donation to Manchester Children’s Hospital and the Braiden Lee Prescott charity raised at consecutive rock nights at the two locals.
While a plaque in the pool room at The Crown in Bentinck Street permanently marks ‘Scotty’s Place – a true star’ where he invariably would stand and engage the other drinkers.
His parents, Kevin and Lorriane Armstrong were guests of honour at the special nights where acts Tubestation and Another Corruption entertained. Organisers Gill and Wayne Fletcher successfully hawked around tickets for a star prize raffle which includes a grandstand full of exclusive Latics goodies not usually available to supporters of the Premiership club.
Crown landlady Gemma Morgan hailed a fantastic memorial evening to Scott, who was a pupil at Hope Special School in Marus Bridge.
She said: “Scott had been coming into the pub for years with his mum and dad, he knew everyone and everybody loved him because he was such a happy cheeky chappy. He had this great smile about him and was always smacking all the women on the bums and messing about. In fact, he was a real star.
“His 16th birthday party was arranged for the end of January but tragically he died beforehand.
“He absolutely loved pop star Michael Jackson and whenever we put any of his songs on he was up and dancing like the best of them and to be frank he was so well loved in this pub that we are all missing him so much.”
An inquest late last year heard that Scott’s dad and medics battled in vain to save his life.
