Christmas break-in warning

A secutiry alert has been raised in a Wigan community after burglars hit at least three homes.

Residents in Lowton were today urged to keep their homes safe in the run-up to Christmas after the spate of break-ins.

The first incident happened on Fountains Walk some time over night from November 2 to 3, when a Volkswagen R32 Coupe and a Mercedes Benz CLK 500 were stolen. The vehicles remain missing.

The second took place at about 3.10am on November 5, when thieves attempted to burgle a home on Chandler Way but were disturbed.

The final incident was reported to have happened at about 5.55am the same day when thieves were disturbed trying to burgle a home on Southwell Close.

There were 35 fewer burglaries in Wigan between September 28 and October 25 compared with the previous four weeks: a drop of 32 per cent.

Figures also show that between April 1 and October 25 there were 147 fewer incidents compared to the same period last year, a reduction of almost 16 per cent.
