Rijo 42 director Sean Griffin was on hand to deliver a course to prepare students for job interviews, at Costa Coffee’s new Robin Park branch.

Students learned about the history of coffee, the different types of beans used, and coffee trading throughout the years. They were then fully immersed in barista training, trying different coffee machines and a host of different drinks styles.

Mr Griffin said the chance to help the youth zone help young people find work was perfectly fitting into his own company’s ethos.

“It is always a pleasure to support the youth zone in any capacity,” he said. “Finding employment for students is fantastic news for everybody concerned.”

Chloe Fairhust attended the course and is due to start work at Costa Coffee in May. She said the training gave her a real boost in confidence when going for interviews.

“It was amazing, and we got a certificate at the end of the session, which I’ve added to my portfolio. Everybody enjoyed it and we learned so much.”

Wigan Youth Zone’s Get A Job course is an eight-week employability skills programme which offers each tudent a chance to get into work, apprenticeships, training and further education. It also offers young people the change to gain new life skills and even attend residential trips to the Lake District.
