MUSIC SCENE: Hey, get down to Haigh

Haigh we go again! More than 7,000 people are expected to turn up at Haigh Hall this Sunday (July 5) to watch 12 acts take to the stage for the Haigh Festival.

Bands including the likes of This Devastated Fan, The Klang, The Adjusters and Before Autumn Falls will all be performing at the event.

Chris Wyatt, Arts and Festivals Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: "This is the biggest, best Haigh Festival to date.

"Twelve brilliant bands celebrating the borough's music scene.

"The message is simple: come down or miss out."

This is the seventh year in which groups and artists from across the area will play at the event, organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, funded by the Wigan Borough Partnership.

Almost 70 bands and solo artists applied to play at this year's bash by submitting an application form and demo to the trust earlier in the year.

A panel made up of local music scene experts then selected 12 acts for the line-up, which includes up and coming performers as well as some that are more renowned.

Chris added: "I know this festival will be well supported by local people, and well entertained by the brilliant line up."

Robbie Cavanagh, frontman and guitarist for This Devastated Fan, said: "We're chuffed to be playing this year.

"We didn't expect to make it onto the line up so when we were told earlier in the year that we'd been successful it came as a welcome surprise."

Alex Winstanley, bass player for The Klang, said: "It's going to be amazing; we can't wait."
