MUSIC SCENE: The best of acoustic talent

This weekend's Imploding Acoustic Inevitable showcase will feature talent from Scotland, Lancaster and Manchester.

Meursault from Edinburgh, Ottersgear and Black Jack Barnet will be playing the event, taking place tomorrow night (Saturday) at The Tudor House Hotel, on New Market Street.

Meursault, who describe their sound as a cross between live electronics and tape music, are being tipped to make it big next year.

This year they played at the acclaimed Homegame Festival and have been championed by MOJO magazine.

Last December they were listed at No.16 in the list of the Top UK Bloggers Sites alongside the likes of Nick Cave, Klaxons and Mystery Jets.

Barry Wilkinson, from Imploding Acoustic Inevitable, said: "They're a really exciting band and next year I think they're going to be massive.

"They have a leftfield acoustic, poppy sound, but there's a lot of integrity there too.

"The band's vocal qualities enhance their sound, which is difficult to pin down into a single genre."

Alternative Celtic folk outfit Ottersgear formed in 2008 and have been described as having "lyrics indebted to pastoral themes of forests and hills."

Manchester storytelling songwriter Black Jack Barnett completes the line up and will be performing a set filled with self-penned torrid tales and tongue twisters. Saturday's Imploding Acoustic Inevitable will be one of the last.

The final event will be a Christmas special next month and will mark the long running night's fourth birthday.

Barry added: "Four years is quite some time to be running a night in Wigan and we've seen some brilliant bands come to enrich the borough's music scene.

"As much as I've loved putting on the nights I feel as if it's time to put it to bed and let somebody else have a go at doing something. The last thing that I would want to do is go on and on and get on peoples nerves, like Alex Ferguson.

"We're still hoping to bring it back in some form for next year's North by Northwestern Festival though."

Doors will open at The Tudor House Hotel at 8pm and entry is free.
