The Liam Farrell Column: We've got the squad to do it this season

Losing in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup is not where we want to be as a club – we want to be getting to Wembley and we want to be winning silverware.

Last Friday we were up against a tough side in Hull and they had prepared well. There are lots of reasons why the match was a tough ask for us but we didn’t deliver a result on the day and that was very disappointing for us.

I thought we started pretty strong and were good in the early stages of the game – and defensively we were really good.

The problem was our execution. We could have done a lot better in some areas.

Lewis Tierney had a try disallowed in the corner which we should have got if we were cleverer with our skill, and that could have changed the outcome of the game.

But on the whole, the best team won.

I thought Hull were better and that’s something we are very disappointed with.

It’s hard to explain what a result like that makes you feel like because there is a lot of pressure at this club to do well – and rightly so – we are a big club and we’re expected to win things.

We were up against a tough side who have big ambitions this year, as their league position at the top shows, and good luck to them in the Cup Final because they deserve to be there.

I will watch the final – I think it will be a very interesting game, especially with both Hull and Warrington both being well followed. They will take a lot of fans down to Wembley with them.

I think it will be one of the best finals we’ve seen in a while which just makes it more gutting we’re not there.

As for my injury, it’s 80 to 90 per cent I’ll be back next week.

I did aim for this week but a few things have kept me out – but I’m ramping-up my training all the time and I’ll hopefully be back to face Castleford.

It’s been frustrating in the gym when I’ve not been able to train like an injury-free player, and I’ve had some stick for doing ‘girly weights’ because my recovery has been a bit slower than I’d have liked.

Some of the lads have taken the mickey out of me but I’m slowly getting there and I’ll be out-lifting them soon!

There’s no chance of us underestimating Wakefield tomorrow.

It will be a very tough game – we’ve played them twice already this season and there’s no reason to make us think otherwise.

They embarrassed us at their place. Yes, we had players missing but the score shouldn’t have been what it was.

And they came to our place and ran us very close, so I’m expecting us to see a tough Wakefield side and one none of us can take lightly. They are in the Super 8s for a reason this year.

Finally, to all our fans, I know it’s disappointing we’re out the Cup and we know you want to see us get to finals and win things, just as we want to do that – for you as well as ourselves.

This is now a huge part of the year for us and we want to do well in the Super 8s and try and get this league won for you.

That’s our next aim and hopefully we can then get back to Old Trafford and go one better than we have in the last two years.

We enjoy getting to Grand Finals as much as you do watching them, and it’s been a while since we’ve managed to win one, so getting to the play-offs and winning the compeition will be a top priority for us this season.
