WIGANERS are being urged to get tweeting as part of a mass event to celebrate the joys of social media.
Wigan Tweet Up - Cheering For Wigan was being held at Sunshine House in Scholes today in a bid to encourage people to communicate via the world wide web.
Organiser Barbara Nettleton said: “I love Twitter, I use it because I want to network and find out what is out there.
“I find it really easy to use and a great way of meeting new people and getting our name out there.
“It is also a quick way of finding out what is going on.
“It is great as organisations such as Wigan and Leigh Housing allow people to tweet questions and get quick replies, rather than ring up and wait in a holding queue.”
The free event runs from 6pm to 9pm and all can attend.
Barbara added: “We have invited representatives from different fields, including the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Agent Marketing, Wigan and Leigh Housing Association and Wigan and Leigh People First and expert tweeters can help interested people sign up.
“We will have a big screen up and all tweets will go live.
“People can then tweet questions to the agencies present and they can get replies.
“We want to show Wigan how valuable Twitter is as it is the social media of today.”
