A BUDDING Wigan-based actor is set for his first big break this Friday.

Thomas Mills, 13, will play a young Johnny Vegas as part of Sky’s Little Crackers series which is running throughout the week running up to Christmas.

The teenager is a member of Willpower Youth Theatre and is hoping that the show will provide a breakthrough into the acting industry.

He applied for the show earlier this year and went through a rigorous audition process before he was given the part.

And it was a familiar voice on the other end of the phone who broke the good news.

“I went to a lot of auditions for it and eventually got the part,” he said. “It was Johnny who rang me up to tell me I had got it which was amazing.

“He’s a very nice man and a fantastic actor; I love the work he’s done in shows such as Benidorm and he starred and directed in this Friday’s programme.”

Thomas will play a 13-year-old Johnny in the short programme. When his dad drops out of fulfilling his Santa Claus duty at the Christmas Fayre, it’s up to him to step in and save the day.

Thomas added: “I can’t wait for it to air, my family are all so excited too and have been saying how proud they are of me. I’ve been on television before in Eric and Ernie with Victoria Wood last year but that was only a small role.

“I had so much fun filming it and I really hope everybody enjoys it. Going to Willpower has been great for me and has really helped me develop my acting skills.”

Little Crackers first ran last year telling stories from younger lives of celebrities. This year’s programmes include stars such as Harry Hill, Sheridan Smith and John Bishop.

Thomas’s proud mother Andrea, who works on the Astley Ward at Wigan Infirmary, couldn’t hide her pride at his success.

She said: “We’re just all really proud of him.

“When we went to the audition, he didn’t think he had done that well the first time so he was over the moon to get the call back. When he got the call from Johnny to say he had got it, we were all so delighted.

“We can’t wait for Friday now.”
