POLICE have made a special appeal for witnesses as a man awaits trial for a Wigan dad’s murder.
Closed circuit television footage was today published by detectives investigating the violent death of Francis Farrell.
The Beech Hill 56-year-old was found collapsed on Frog Lane, Gidlow, at 4.10am on Sunday, June 17 and he died three days later from the head injury he sustained that night.
David Horner, 23, from Scholes, has admitted Mr Farrell’s unlawful killing but his plea to a lesser crime was not accepted by Liverpool Crown Court last month and he will stand trial for murder - a charge he denies - on December 10.
In the meantime though police are still evidence-gathering and have issued CCTV stills of two women who may have vital information to come forward.
They were seen leaving the Hub nightclub in King Street at 5.15am the day Mr Farrell was attacked.
One has long brown hair and is wearing a long sleeveless top over black leggings and black shoes. She is also carrying a black jacket. The second has red hair which is tied up, is wearing a light coloured long vest top with a motif on the front and black trousers/leggings. She is also wearing light coloured high heeled shoes.
Det Chief Insp Philip Reade said: “We are appealing for the two women who can be seen in the CCTV images to come forward and speak to us.
“I want to stress that we do not believe these women are involved in Francis’s death in any way, but they may have information that may help us with our investigation.
“If you recognise yourself in the photo, or if you know who either of these women are, please call police on 0161 856 2448.”
