ARE any Wigan families daring enough to go on live TV to play games and offer opinions?
The One Show is looking for families in the borough to kick start a new feature on the BBC series.
Each Wednesday, a family from two towns connected with that evening’s celebrity guests, will be selected to take part in The One Show Family of The Week.
Camera crews will set up in the family’s home, feeding live to the studio, speaking to presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones, as they take part in activities.
Wigan and Leytonstone were chosen for the first week, being the childhood haunts of Vicious stars Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi.
Ashley Jenkin, researcher for The One Show, said: “We are looking to start a new strand on the show, which will provide an hour of fun, with lots of games and activities.
“We want to feed our cameras live to their homes across the country as they are watching the show and ask their opinions on what is happening and encourage them to take part in games and activities.
“It will be two different towns each week and Wigan is lucky enough to host the first one, as Sir Ian McKellen has a connection there. It was where he spent most of his childhood, as he was there during the war, and where he grew up.
“We think Sir Ian will enjoy the local connection. It will be a lot of fun and a nice thing to do. Plus, we hope Wigan will provide good quality characters which will be great on TV.
“We are looking for an outgoing, fun family and hopefully Wigan will give it its best shot.”
If anyone wishes to take part, they can e-mail email@example.com with their contact details, and a photo of the family. People must put the words Family of the Week in the subject header.
Ashley added: “The One Show is looking for an outgoing family from Wigan to take part in their live one hour programme on Wednesday May 27 - all from the comfort of their sofa in their very own home.
“Anyone who is interested in getting involved will need to allow filming to take place in their house that afternoon and evening. I am sure they will enjoy the experience.”
