CHRISTMAS is coming - and plans are now well under way to make it a memorable one with a host of free events round the borough.
With fewer than 100 days until December 25, Wigan town centre bosses have announced details of this year’s annual activities, including the popular lights switch-on.
John Sanson, centre manager of the Grand Arcade, said: “Wigan town centre will be full of festive cheer with the launch of late -night shopping and the light switch on event, not forgetting Santa and his team of reindeer too. We look forward to shoppers and visitors enjoying all the free, festive fun we have planned.”
Firstly, the lights switch-on will take place on Thursday November 14 between 4pm and 7.30pm in Market Place, launching late night shopping in the town.
It will be followed by live entertainment which will be provided by a selection of acts and performers whose identity will only be revealed nearer the time.
Santa and his reindeer return to the town on Sunday November 17, leading a huge parade from Mesnes Park to Market Place. The parade will start at 1pm from Mesnes Park, travelling through Mesnes Road, turning right onto Standishgate and arriving in Market Place at 1.30pm.
Families will then have the opportunity of meeting Santa and his reindeers in Market Place and be entertained by the free performers until 4.30pm.
The borough’s organisations and groups are invited to join the parade, for more information email the events team on firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.wiganchristmas.co.uk and join @wiganchristmas on Twitter.
