MOTORISTS faced long delays as one lane was shut on a Wigan stretch of the M6 this morning.

The incident happened at around 7.20am and fire crews who attended the scene say delays are expected until around 10am as a result.

Police closed off the lane after a Land Rover towing a trailor overturned on the southbound carriageway between junction 27 at Standish and junction 26 at Orrell.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and the driver of the Land Rover was treated for his injuries at the scene. There were no passengers in his car.
