A CYCLIST is in a critical condition in hospital after a serious road accident, which left a road closed for four hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in which the 30-year-old cyclist collided with a Nissan Micra at the junction of Atherleigh Way and Kirkhall Lane in Leigh at around 10.45pm on Saturday.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with head, leg and pelvis injuries, and remains there in a critical condition. No further identification details have been released so far.

The road was closed for around four hours while police investigated the crash at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
