Create a new you

PARENTS and carers struggling with their New Year’s resolutions to get in shape and live healthier lives can get a helping hand from a new council-run scheme.

New Me, New You will offer assistance in creating new year plans with a series of sessions held at Leigh Central Children’s Centre, on Windermere Road.

The first session last Wednesday was hailed by council officials as a success, with several women attending the centre’s regular classes showing interest in the scheme and booking in for consultations.

Throughout January Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh NHS health trainers will be offering advice on how to reduce alcohol consumption and lose weight through eating a more balanced diet every Wednesday morning from 8.30am to 12pm.

The NHS no smoking team will also be visiting the centre every Monday afternoons from 12 to 5pm.

Stressed parents will also be able to wind down after the Christmas and New Year rush with massages and pampering by Wigan and Leigh College’s Image Centre students, though times for these sessions have yet to be confirmed.
