ARSONISTS set fire to a car outside a Wigan pub, which spread to another vehicle.

Firefighters were called to the car park of The Bowling Green, in Ormskirk Road, Wigan, at 8.30pm, on Wednesday, after reports two cars were on fire.

Crews tackled the blaze for 45 minutes, using breathing apparatus and two hose reels.

The flames completely destroyed both cars - a Renault Espace and a Toyota Lucinda.

The fire had not spread to the building.

Fire crews believe someone had broken into the pub, which was closed for renovation, as the locks had been damaged.

But a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police could not confirm whether the locks had been tampered with.

Officers were still at the scene of the incident late yesterday carrying out an investigation, but have confirmed the attack on the cars is being treated as suspicious.
