BURGLARS ransacked a home in Scholes in a daring afternoon raid and made off with various valuable items.

The property on Leader Street was hit by the thieves between 4-5.30pm on Thursday August 1 after forcing in the back door.

They searched the property and took various items including around 50 CDs, jewellery, watches and a Kindle. There was no one in the house at the time of the burglary.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

DC Danny Ritchie said: “This burglary happened in broad daylight.

“If you were in the area and remember seeing anything suspicious that could be relevant to this burglary please get in touch with the police.

“At this stage it is not known how many offenders there are or whether they used a vehicle but we know they attempted to get in through the front door before eventually getting in through the back, so someone may have seen them tampering with the door.

“We would also ask anyone who is offered anything for sale in suspicious circumstances to get in touch. As well as CDs, a Led Zeppelin boxset was stolen, a Kindle and various items of jewellery including watches, bracelets, a necklace and earrings.”

The burglary comes days after officers arrested seven people on a crack down on similar crimes believed to be related to drugs in Scholes.

John Crossland, 38, of Linney Square, Scholes, was charged with possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B drug.

He is due to appear before Wigan Magistrates⿿ Court on 13 August 2013.

Six other men were arrested as part of Operation Spetsai - a multi-agency crackdown to combat the supply of drugs in Scholes.
