Andrew Evans, from Golborne, wrote a string of messages on Wigan Today’s Facebook page after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) appealed for public help tracing him.

The 26-year-old, of Heath Street, is wanted by officers in connection with an incident in which a couple in their 70s were threatened with a gun and a knife in their Lowton home before being taken in a car to a cash machine to withdraw hundreds of pounds.

In another unexpected development his mum also used the Wigan Today Facebook page to beg her son to get in touch as she had not heard from him.

Evans wrote in one of his posts: “I’m ringing a solicitor out of Wigan if that’s ok with you I’m not still at large because I haven’t committed this offence OK”

In another he wrote: “I’m ok I’ve done nothing wrong I’ve got witnesses”.
