A MOTORIST who admitted driving without a valid licence and failing to produce a licence to police officers was given an absolute discharge after telling a court he was heavily in debt.

James Naylor, 25, claimed he owed more than £60,000 to bailiffs after Wigan Magistrates’ Court informed him that he had an outstanding debt to them of more than £2,000. Justices discharged the defendant on the motoring matters but adjourned the case of the outstanding fines owed to the courts.

Naylor, of Old Haigh School Court, School Lane, Haigh, was ordered to pay at least £20 a week to the courts prior to another appearance on March 5.
