A WIGAN woman has earned the title of Mum of the Year after being nominated for the award by her grateful daughter.

Lorraine Wilding, 57, of Springfield, was crowned Foxy Bingo.com’s Mum of the Year at a lavish award ceremony in London.

The mother-of-three was nominated by her youngest daughter, Joanne, who wrote a long letter to the judges explaining why she felt her mum deserved the crown, including how Lorraine had helped to pay for the magical wedding she longed to have.

In her letter to the judges, Joanne said: “My mum is quite simply my best friend and I really don’t know what I would do without her.

“She is there for me night and day and is the most amazing nanny to all of her seven grandchildren, putting us and them before everything else in her life.

“My mum is not only giving us the dream day that we wanted but she has also booked us a two-night mini break after the wedding.

“No words, actions or gifts could ever ever be enough to recognise what she does for us every day of her life.”

Lorraine said: “I think I was chosen because of the letter Joanne sent.

“It was so heartfelt and when I read it I cried.

“She is getting married in two weeks and has two little girls of her own, so she was going to have a small wedding, but we have given her the wedding she wanted.

“When I got the phone call to let me know I had won, I was in total shock. I could not believe it and started babbling - I could not speak.

“I never expected to win. It just would not sink in.

“Joanne and I have this superb relationship. We are so close, so the fact she nominated me did not surprise me.

“She is a fantastic daughter and I could not wish for a better one.”

Lorraine was picked to win the award out of thousands of other doting mums, as judges at Foxy felt Joanne’s letter to them proved that she was the worthy winner of the competition.

She received an all expenses paid weekend to London for the award ceremony and £500 in shopping vouchers.

She was given her award alongside Celebrity Mum of the Year 2011, X Factor finalist Stacey Solomon, who won the nation’s hearts when she appeared on the reality TV show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here last year.
