THIEVES snatched a mobile phone from a teenager’s hands in broad daylight.

At 1.10pm on Tuesday, June 18, two men approached a 14-year-old boy in Mesnes Park in Wigan near to the duck pond.

The men snatched his mobile phone, a Sony Ericsson Experia, from his hand and ran away towards the bandstand.

One of the offenders is described as being in his late teens, around 5ft 9in tall and slim. He was wearing a black hoodie and black jeans.

PC Richard Kelsall from Wigan West Integrated Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “If anyone knows anything about this incident please call the police.

“We would also remind people to be vigilant when using your phone. Smart phones are worth a lot of money so never leave it unattended, be aware of your surroundings and keep it out of sight when in public.”

Greater Manchester Police recommends using a pin or password to protect your phone, keeping a record of the phone’s IMEI number and registering it on immobilise.com. Smartphone owners can also install a tracking app, advice on these can be found here
