DISABLED workers say they are being “chucked on the scrap heap” after the shock announcement that their Wigan factory is to close in 30 days.
A total of 38 staff at Remploy’s Lamberhead Green site will see their jobs axed after bosses received government backing to shut 27 of its 54 sites.
Today Brian Davies, Wigan’s GMB representative, said: “We are all really upset and people are crying.
“Remploy means verything to them - it is not only a job, but a way of life.”
The Government says there are better ways of providing work for the disabled than such work environments.
