A WIGAN school has gained some new feathered friends.

A cash donation by Wigan Rotary Club’s Dragon’s Den scheme enabled Marsh Green Primary to buy a state-of-the-art coop to house some recently-hatched chicks.

Headteacher Gill Leigh said: ”We have had the chickens since they hatched out from eggs and were thrilled when Wigan Rotary Club awarded us the money to purchase our Eglu. Both the chickens and their new home have proved a real hit with the children, and have given the teachers so many opportunities to include them in their lessons.”

Rotary Dragon Aukje Clegg said: “We wanted to see the result of our donation and we are delighted that it is obviously such a success and has added another dimension to the life of the school.”

Club president Venk Mani added: “This donation would not have been possible without the generosity of the Wigan public, particularly in December when Rotary accompanied Santa round town.”
